‘The Artist is Present’ is a performance retrospective at MoMA, New York, from March 14-May 31, 2010.

The exhibition covers the artist’s work which spans four decades of performances, sound pieces, video works, installations and photography. The focal point of the retrospective is the artist herself, who for the duration of the exhibit, installs herself on a chair, seven hours a day, six days a week, without any breaks.
In this piece for FLY16×9, Abramović sat down with director Howard Silver, as she was preparing for her retrospective, to discuss her life’s work, as well as her thoughts on the future.

This was the first photo I’ve seen of one of her performances. It instantly caught my eye and intrinsically captures the challenges of performance and video art.

It was my first time to see Health live and I was shocked at how amazing the show was… I loved how they got on stage saying “Hi we’re Health from Los Angeles, California” and 1 second later they started to play. It was like getting a kick in your face.

I think I might be going again… the line up is so much better than last year (which is why I didn’t go) DOUR IS BACK!! wooooop woooop!

Aaron was chillin’ when Ronnie cited out stick figures doing beastility on those wooden cubes behind Aaron’s head. Me and Mikey couldn’t help but start laughing. Ronnie is kinda a perv.
